On Wednesday, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) chose Narendra Modi as its leader by a unanimous vote. This marked the beginning of the government formation process. Simultaneously, the opposition INDIA group declared that it would take the required steps to represent the people's wish for a change in government. The government and opposition alliances met separately in the evening, at the homes of Congressman Mallikarjun Kharge and the Prime Minister, respectively. The noteworthy performance of the NDA and India bloc gained a clear majority. The NDA received 293 Lok Sabha seats, with 240 of those seats coming from the BJP. This number well exceeds the 272 majority in the 543-member House, enabling Modi to take government for a third consecutive term—a feat not seen by any ruling alliance since 1962.
