Kangana Ranaut, a former actor who entered politics, defeated Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, with 72,088 votes.
Himachal Pradesh's Mandi is renowned for both its extensive collection of historic temples and for electing former royals more regularly than any other area. Geographically speaking, it is the largest constituency in Himachal Pradesh.
After being a Congress stronghold, the Mandi Lok Sabha seat went to the BJP in the last two elections. Ram Swaroop Sharma of the BJP defeated Pratibha Singh of the Congress, a former two-time MP, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of 39,000 votes. Ram Swaroop Sharma won the seat back in the 2019 elections by a significant majority.
Pratibha, the late MP Ram Sharma's wife, chose not to run for office following the announcement of Mandi-born Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut's candidacy. But the people in Mandi thought that Modi's influence was the only reason for Kangana's triumph.
