Welcome Post By Kiren Rijiju For MPs, 'Walk The Talk' Reply By Jairam Ramesh
Encouraged by its strong performance in the general election that prevented the BJP from winning a majority, the opposition is preparing to take the ruling party to task on important matters during this session.
Delhi, New: Hours before the new Lok Sabha opens, two prominent members of the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress sparred this morning in what looks to be a tease for a turbulent Parliament session.
Kiren Rijiju, a top BJP politician and minister of Parliamentary Affairs, issued a welcome message for the 18th Lok Sabha members this morning. On June 24, 2024, the First Session of the 18th Lok Sabha convenes. Greetings to all the newly elected honorable members. As Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, I will be at the members' disposal at all times. "I'm eagerly anticipating coordination to manage the house," he remarked.
Senior Congress politician and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh took aim at the post. "Actions will have a greater voice. than words Mr. Minister. Walk the Talk," he said in reply to the minister's post.
In response, Mr. Rijiju said the head of the Congress might be a "asset to the House if you contribute positively". "Yes, @Jairam_Ramesh Ji. You are a wise member who, should you make constructive contributions, will be a great value to the house. In a parliamentary democracy, political parties will always have differences, but we are all committed to serving the country. Anticipating your assistance in upholding India's illustrious Parliamentary customs," he remarked.
Refusing to back down, Mr. Ramesh answered with a sarcastic remark about the National Testing Agency (NTA), which has the government embarrassed due to anomalies in the way the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is administered. "Mr. Minister, thank you. I hope the grade on your certificate of intelligence differs from the NTA's. Is it with grace marks?," Mr Ramesh said.
