The West Indies team created many world records with their brilliant batting against Afghanistan in St Lucia. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and invited the West Indies to bat first.

Chanson Charles (43) gave the West Indies a flying start to the innings. Nicholas Pooran, who came in at no. 3, scored 98 runs off just 53 balls. West Indies scored 218 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

With this, West Indies became the highest run-getter in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Earlier, the record was held by the Sri Lankan team which scored 201 runs against the Netherlands.

West Indies batsmen scored 92 runs in the powerplay of the match. This is the highest powerplay score in T20 World Cup history. The previous record was set by the Netherlands, who scored 91 runs in the first six overs against Ireland in 2014.

This is also the highest total posted by the West Indies team in a T20 World Cup. In the 2007 T20 World Cup, the West Indies team scored 205 against South Africa. This is the highest score so far. West Indies have now created a new history by scoring 218 runs against Afghanistan.

West Indies won the match against Afghanistan by 104 runs. Notably, this is the first time that the West Indies have won the T20 World Cup by more than 100 runs twice. Earlier, West Indies defeated Uganda by 134 runs. They have now defeated the Afghan army by 104 runs and achieved a great victory by 2 centuries in the same World Cup.
