Mallikarjun Kharge stated that PM Modi raised 'divisive issues' 421 times during the election campaign.

On the final day of campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress leader also asserted that in the preceding 15 days, PM Modi referenced the Congress '232 times.'

On Thursday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of bringing up "divisive issues more than 400 times" during the ongoing Lok Sabha election campaign.

"PM Modi spoke about 'mandir-masjid' (temple-mosque) and other divisive issues more than 421 times during poll campaigning. He did this despite the Election Commission's directive not to solicit votes based on caste and religion," Kharge said at a press conference in Delhi.

The Congress leader was addressing reporters on the final day of campaigning for the seventh and concluding phase of the national polls. In this phase, voting will take place on Saturday for 57 parliamentary constituencies across different states and Union territories.

The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections is scheduled for June 4.

Meanwhile, Kharge also asserted that during the last 15 days of the campaign, PM Modi referred to himself "758 times" and mentioned the grand old party "232 times."

"He didn't address the issue of unemployment even once," the senior politician remarked.

Kharge also expressed confidence that the Congress-led opposition INDIA bloc will secure a clear majority and establish an "inclusive and nationalistic government" in the country.

"We are certain that the people will mandate an alternative government on June 4," he stated, adding that voters have "supported" the INDIA bloc's belief that if the current government is re-elected, "it will mark the end of democracy."

The seasoned leader also took a jab at the Prime Minister regarding his statement in a media interview, where he claimed that the world only became familiar with Mahatma Gandhi after the release of the Richard Attenborough-directed biopic in 1982.

"The PM may not have studied about Gandhi, but Mahatma Gandhi is recognized worldwide," Kharge remarked.
