According to the BBC, Ireland is going to follow the UK's example and outlaw XL bully dogs, so outlawing this controversial breed. The sale, gifting, abandonment, and breeding of these dogs will be prohibited as of October 1, according to a prohibition imposed by the Irish Department of Rural and Community Development.
Beginning on February 1, 2025, it will likewise be illegal to own an XL bully unless the current owners are granted a "Certificate of Exemption."

The News Outlet reports that Minister Heather Humphreys stated the prohibition was implemented in the "interest of public safety following a number of recent horrific attacks by XL bullies, which included the death of a young woman, Nicole Morey, in Limerick."

The panel, which will look at dog control issues, was formed by Ms. Humphreys in March and will be led by a former senior garda (Irish police officer).

The Irish prime minister, or Taoiseach, Simon Harris, has previously stated that there was a "clear need" for government intervention and that he would want to see a ban.
The XL bully is the largest breed of bully dog in America. This breed, according to the UK Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, is a smaller version of the larger American bully. They are distinguished by their large size, muscular build, blocky skull, and noticeable strength and power in relation to their size. The ownership of XL bullies is strictly prohibited by law in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
