Rajasthan had the biggest decline in the BJP's marginally decreased vote share—10%—while UP came in second.

The number of BJP Lok Sabha seats dropped from 303 to 240 between 2019 and 2024, with the majority of the losses occurring in the four Hindi heartland states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Haryana. These four states lost the most seats overall for the BJP, accounting for 49 of the total loss.

The party lost 86 of the 303 seats it won in 2019, for a net loss of 63 seats. Nevertheless, the party also picked up 23 new seats in six states and one Union Territory (UT).

Its vote share, however, decreased very little. The BJP received 37.7% of the vote in 2019. The BJP's vote share decreased by 1.2% in the 2024 elections, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.
