Bus veered off road, fell into deep gorge near Tanda, Akhnoor in Jammu. Nineteen people killed, several injured as bus carrying passengers from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, veered off road, plunged into deep gorge in Tanda area of Akhnoor, Jammu: Yartri bus plunges into gorge near Kalidhar temple.
Accident occurred in Kalidhar district, officials said. Bus rolled about 150 feet down into gorge, according to PTI report.
"Bus carrying passengers from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, has accident near Tanda, Akhnoor in Jammu. Rescue operations underway," said District Magistrate, Jammu, on X.
President of India, Droupadi Murmu, posted on X, "Deeply saddened by loss of lives in bus accident in Akhnoor near Jammu. My heartfelt condolences to bereaved families. Wishing speedy recovery of injured."
Injured shifted to Akhnoor Hospital and Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu.
"The first casualties received by CSE Akhnoor. They informed us they will send around 20-25 patients, out of which 16 patients already received. This was a tourist vehicle, and passengers are not from Jammu, they are from outside," said Narinder Singh, Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College, Jammu.
