In the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress was expected to win at least 15 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state, since its administration was in charge of Karnataka. However, the party was unable to secure enough seats to overthrow the BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) partnership, and they ended up with just nine seats. The divisions within the divisive Karnataka unit are resurfacing as the party evaluates its performance following the elections.
