The Surya river is in spate as heavy rains batter Thane and Palghar.
A bridge at Manor was flooded as a result of the Surya river in Palghar flooding.
Thane/Palghar: Authorities issued a "red alert" for Palghar on Thursday morning, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall, following torrential rains that battered Maharashtra's Thane and neighboring Palghar districts overnight.
The chief of the district disaster management cell, Vivekanand Kadam, stated that a bridge in Manor was inundated and that traffic between Wada and Manor remained interrupted due to flooding of the Surya river in Palghar. He claimed that the rising tide made everything worse.
At ten in the morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a "red alert" for Palghar, predicting extremely heavy rainfall for the following three hours, according to Kadam.
He stated that several authorities' hunt for an excavator and its operator at Sasun Navghar in Palghar has been temporarily halted due to the intense rains. On May 29, the soil in a tunnel for a planned water project collapsed in, burying the excavator and its operator.
According to a different authority, there was also significant overnight rainfall in the nearby Thane city and region. Yasin Tadvi, the head of Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management department, said that over the 24-hour period that ended at 8.30 am on Thursday, the city received 35.51 mm of rainfall.
