TDP leader: "40 Waqf Bill sections are harmful to Muslims... everything is being diluted."

The Waqf Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by the BJP-led NDA government during the just ended Budget Session of Parliament, which incited complaints from the Opposition INDIA group.

Fathullah Mohammad, the general secretary of the Telugu Desam Party's minority cell, has referred to some parts of the Bill as "concerning" and asked his party to speak with Muslim leaders prior to endorsing it in Parliament. The TDP wants to make sure that by supporting "contentious" sections of the Draft Bill, it does not offend the Muslims, who make up roughly 12–13% of Andhra Pradesh's population. The community, which is centered in the state's Rayalaseema region, is thought to be a sizable TDP support base and is thought to have been instrumental in guaranteeing a resounding win in the most recent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
