Former power official disputes involvement in Yadadri Thermal Plant building
According to Ajay Mishra, the choice to build the Yadadri plant was made well in advance of his appointment as principal secretary for energy.
Hyderabad: According to reports, Ajay Mishra, a retired principal secretary from the Energy Department, told the Justice L Narasimha Reddy commission, which is looking into purported irregularities in the power sector under the previous government, that he was not involved in the BRS government's decision to build Yadadri Thermal Power Plant.
Ajay Mishra, who resigned from the commission, claimed that the Yadadri plant's construction was decided upon long before he became principal secretary for energy. He further claimed that he had only attended the review meetings that were organized by the then-chief minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao, and that he had not made any policy decisions pertaining to the plant.
About twenty-five officials and non-officials, including former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, received letters from the panel regarding the Bhadradri and Yadadri power projects and the Chhattisgarh government's Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
Senior IAS officers who served as principal secretaries in the Energy Department from 2014 to 2023, including Suresh Chanda, Ajay Mishra, SK Joshi, and Arvind Kumar, as well as former Transco and Genco chairman and managing director D Prabhakar Rao, have deposed before the Commission.
The State administration has requested that Justice Narasimha Reddy provide its report within a hundred days.
