WHO confirms a case of H9N2 avian flu in a 4-year-old child in India, marking a significant health alert.

A four-year-old child in West Bengal has been diagnosed with bird flu, which is caused by the H9N2 virus, according to a recent report from the World Health Organization (WHO). The first instance in India that has been documented was discovered in 2019. After being diagnosed and treated, the youngster who had been admitted to a local hospital's pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) in February due to severe respiratory problems, high fever, and abdominal cramps was released three months later.

The H9N2 virus is one of the most common avian influenza viruses found in poultry, thus even though it usually causes mild disease, the WHO has cautioned of the possibility of occasional human cases.
