A day after the Ministry of Education ordered the cancellation of the UGC-NET due to inputs suggesting the exam's "integrity may have been compromised," and assigned the investigation to the CBI, Joint Secretary Govind Jaiswal announced that the ministry received inputs from I4C. "Prima facie, we felt the exam had been compromised. The inputs were received by UGC from I4C, and they were of a technical nature. In the interest of students, we have decided to cancel the exam."

He further stated that the CBI will investigate the matter. "I4C operates differently on digital platforms... we had some indications. At this level, disclosing any details would compromise the investigation," he said, adding that there have been no complaints about UGC-NET, and I4C had taken action on its own initiative.
