Kolkata: When the ambulance they were riding in collided with a truck on Friday night in the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal, six people—including four members of a family—were murdered, according to police.

The identities of two critically injured people receiving treatment at a local hospital are still pending confirmation, according to a senior police official from the district.

At the time of the tragedy, the ambulance was carrying Aparna Bag from a hospital in Khirpai to Medinipur Medical College and Hospital, which is located close to the Panchami State highway that passes through Keshpur.

"A truck carrying cement sacks and an ambulance carrying eight people—including the patient's family and the driver—collided. According to the officer, two people—including the patient—seriously injured while six people died at the scene.


The officer stated that the names of the deceased were aunt Chandana Bhuniya, uncle Shyamal Bhuniya, mother Anima Mallick of Aparna, and her husband Shyamapada Bag. The identities of the other two are still unknown.

It should be noted that Aparna and Shyamapada were married a few months prior.
