A total of 349 individuals lost their lives as a result of tiger attacks during this time, with 200 of the deaths occurring in Maharashtra alone.

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) reports that 2020 had 106 tigers pass away, 2021 saw 127, 2022 saw 121, and 2023 saw 178 tigers pass away.

According to the data, 2023 will see the largest number of tiger deaths since 2012.


Union Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh stated on Thursday, in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, that 49 individuals perished in tiger attacks in 2019 and 2020, 59 in 2021, 110 in 2022, and 82 in 2023.

Madhya Pradesh reported 27 human deaths from tiger attacks, compared to 59 in Uttar Pradesh.

Based on the most recent government data, 3,682 tigers — or over 75% of the world's wild tiger population — were found in India in 2022.
