Rohit Sharma Trains Shivam Dube for T20 World Cup Before India vs Bangladesh Warm-Up Game
Even though Rinku Singh didn't make the T20 World Cup squad, he looked in good form before the warm-up game against Bangladesh. India will play Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Saturday in their only warm-up game before their first match in the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 5 against Ireland at the same place. Before the game, India had their final practice session with former captain Virat Kohli still not present. Key aspects included Rinku Singh's batting and a long discussion between captain Rohit Sharma and Shivam Dube.
India had their practice session on Friday before the T20 World Cup warm-up game against Bangladesh. Just like on Thursday, they practiced for three hours on Friday morning. Kohli was the only squad member missing, as the 35-year-old was traveling to New York to join the team. He had reportedly extended his break after the end of his IPL 2024 campaign and, thus, wasn't part of the first group of players that left for the World Cup.
India began their training session with fielding drills, focusing on flat and high catches under the watchful eyes of fielding coach T Dilip.
Hardik Pandya Snubbed as Agarkar's 'Four Spinners' T20WC Call Questioned
The focus then shifted to the batting nets, where Suryakumar Yadav spent a lot of time facing throwdowns. Rohit followed next, facing Khaleel Ahmed, Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Ravindra Jadeja. The captain even practiced the reverse sweep against the spinners. During his session, he had a long discussion with Dube about where and how to bowl on the drop-in pitch at Cantiague Park in New York. According to a video by Star Sports, Rohit explained to Dube about the lengths and the type of shots batters might try.
Dube has been picked as an all-rounder in the Indian team despite limited opportunities to bowl in IPL 2024, as the Impact Player rule reduced his role to a middle-order batter. After bowling in the home series against Afghanistan in January, Dube bowled just one over in IPL 2024 for Chennai Super Kings, where he also took a wicket.
Unlike Thursday, when Yashasvi Jaiswal had a light training session due to jet lag, the India opener had a full session in the nets, working on his cover drives and pull shots. Hardik Pandya had another long batting stint, regularly talking with batting coach Vikram Rathour. Rathour advised Hardik on his head position, stance, and footwork.
Rinku Singh in Good Form
Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh may have missed the T20 World Cup squad, with selectors opting for four spinners, leaving Rinku in the reserves. However, he looked in good form in the nets. Journalist Vimal Kumar noted that Rinku looked confident in the nets.
With Kohli likely to miss the warm-up game against Bangladesh as he will be recovering from jet lag on Saturday, India might send Rinku to bat during the match.
