The filmmaker of the Hindi film Shaadi Ke, Karan Johar, filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court, claiming that he was offended by the use of his name in the film's title.
Bollywood director and producer Karan Johar has filed a complaint with the Bombay High Court alleging that the title of the upcoming Hindi film Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar improperly uses his name. In his appeal, Karan requested a restraining order and permanent injunction to prevent writer-director Bablu Singh, producer IndiaPride Advisory, and actor Sanjay Singh from using his name in the film's title.
On Wednesday, the lawsuit was brought up before Justice RI Chagla's lone bench. The plea will be heard on Thursday, the court announced. June 14 (Friday) is the scheduled release date for the film.
The 52-year-old Bollywood star claimed the movie's producers were using his name illegally in the title and argued he had no connection to either party. Karan claimed in the lawsuit that his rights to privacy and his reputation were violated because the movie's title directly mentioned him.
He added that the film's producers were abusing his reputation and goodwill by utilizing his brand name without his consent. Karan emphasized that unapproved usage of his name was resulting in irreversible loss and harm to his image.
