In the Amethi Lok Sabha Constituency, Kishori Lal of the Congress beat Smriti Irani of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In one of the most prominent contests of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, Irani was fighting to hold onto the seat against Kishori Lal Sharma, the dependable lieutenant of the Gandhi dynasty.

On May 20, at the fifth phase of the elections, with a voter turnout of 54.40%, Amethi's fate was confirmed.

The largest blow to the Congress came in Amethi during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, as Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi with 55,000 votes. 

The political scene was affected when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi chose to run from Raebareli rather than Amethi. Swiftly grasping the chance, Smriti Irani stated that history had been made. Kishori Lal Sharma, a longtime supporter of the Gandhi family, has been selected by the Congress to challenge Smriti Irani.

Smriti Irani's disputes

From 2014 to 2016, Smriti Irani served as the HRD minister and was embroiled in a number of scandals. She was accused by opposition parties of reading a leaflet in parliament that contained disparaging statements about Goddess Durga. She angrily refuted this accusation, emphasizing her fervent devotion to Durga.

To further add to the issue surrounding her, inquiries were made regarding the continuity of her educational background between her election affidavits from 2004 and 2014.
