Shankar’s Sequel to Indian Finally Gets Release Date
Shankar’s long-awaited sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian now has a confirmed release date. Kamal Haasan, the film’s lead actor, took to X (previously known as Twitter) to announce the release date. The sequel, titled Indian 2, is set to hit theaters this July. Haasan also took the opportunity to encourage fans to vote, stressing their crucial role in the democratic process.
Release Date Confirmed for Indian 2
After facing multiple delays, Indian 2 is slated to release on July 12. Kamal Haasan made the declaration, stating, “#Indian2 Releasing worldwide in cinemas 12th July 2024!” He also revealed that the first single from the movie, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, will debut on May 22.

Haasan’s Call to Action
Encouraging fans to exercise their voting rights, Haasan shared another poster from the movie, stating, “One INDIAN. One VOTE. One VOICE. Be the change you desire! VOTE RESPONSIBLY!”

Shankar’s Indian, released in 1996, featured Kamal Haasan in dual roles alongside Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar, and Kasthuri Shankar. The movie follows an Army veteran who becomes a vigilante to combat corruption. The film’s soundtrack by AR Rahman was highly acclaimed, and it was released in Telugu as Bharateeyudu and in Hindi as Hindustani.
Indian 2: Embracing Zero Tolerance
Indian 2, subtitled Zero Tolerance, has been in production since 2019, with Kamal Haasan reprising his role as Senapathy. The sequel also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, and Rakul Preet Singh. Despite setbacks like a crew injury and pandemic-related delays, filming resumed in 2022. Initially slated for a June release, the film’s producers postponed it to July.
