Bengaluru: In a scene straight out of an action film, a group of criminals ambushed a police vehicle in the early hours of Saturday in the Karnataka district of Gadag and made off with the accused, who had been taken into custody for robbery.
Police said that the group ambushed a Gangavathy police van from Koppal District close to the Gadag Railway Bridge and made off with accused Amjad Ali Irani.
The Gangavathy Shahar police had filed a robbery complaint against Amjad Ali Irani under IPC Section 392, and they were looking for him. After visiting the four injured hospital staff members on Saturday, Superintendent of Police BS Nemagouda said that the police had gone to arrest the suspect who was wanted by the Gangavathy Shahar police.
Amjad Ali Irani was being taken to the police station by the police when his accomplices, who had followed the car, attacked it and assisted the prisoner in getting away.
