CWC Resolves to Appoint Rahul Gandhi as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha

Senior party leader KC Venugopal announced on Saturday that the Congress Working Committee has passed a resolution requesting Rahul Gandhi to assume the role of Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha.

"CWC unanimously urged Rahul Gandhi to take on the role of Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, asserting that Rahul ji is the best person to lead this campaign within Parliament," KC Venugopal announced at a press conference.

When questioned about Rahul Gandhi's acceptance of the Leader of the Opposition role in Lok Sabha, KC Venugopal, the Congress General Secretary in charge of the organization, stated that a decision would be made very soon.

Venugopal also highlighted that the revival of Congress has begun, with both the leader and workers energized. He remarked that the atmosphere in the CWC has significantly improved compared to four months ago.

After the CWC meeting, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari remarked, "Rahul Gandhi should definitely become the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha. This was the request of our working committee. He is fearless and courageous."

"Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is lauded for his significant contributions, particularly through the Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which he conceptualized and spearheaded. These Yatras, reflecting his vision and persona, were pivotal moments in our nation's political landscape, fostering hope and confidence among millions of our party workers and voters," the resolution stated.

"Rahul Gandhi's election campaign was characterized by a clear focus, sharpness, and directness, emphasizing the safeguarding of our nation's Constitution as the foremost priority in the 2024 elections, surpassing any other individual effort. The widespread resonance of the PaanchNyay-Pachees Guarantee program throughout the campaign originated from Rahul ji's Yatras, during which he earnestly engaged with the fears, concerns, and aspirations of diverse segments of society, notably youth, women, farmers, workers, Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs, and minorities," it elaborated.

The CWC also acknowledged the challenges despite the party's resurgence in the Lok Sabha elections.

"Although we have clearly bounced back and revitalized, there lies a substantial path ahead to regain the prominent position the party formerly held in the nation's political realm. The voice of the Indian people has resonated—the Congress has been given another chance. It is now our responsibility to seize upon it. We are resolute and we shall succeed."

The extended Congress Working Committee meeting saw the attendance of Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, alongside senior party leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Manish Tewari, DK Shivakumar, Revanth Reddy, and numerous others.
