Jerusalem: On Thursday morning, Israel's far-right National Security Minister paid a visit to one of the city's most sacred sites and made threats to scuttle negotiations for a truce in Gaza.
The leader of the ultranationalist settler movement, Itamar Ben-Gvir, claimed that he had visited the Al Aqsa Mosque, located on a disputed hilltop in Jerusalem, to pray for the release of the hostages "but without a reckless deal."
Itamar Ben-Gvir's action poses a risk to delicate negotiations aiming at a truce in the nine-month-old Israel-Hamas conflict.
Both Muslims and Jews claim the Jerusalem hilltop site, and although Ben-Gvir's visit was permitted, it was viewed as provocative.
