A vehicle carrying 23 passengers plunged into a gorge near the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district. The accident occurred on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway.

According to news agency PTI, eight persons are thought to have died when a tempo traveler carrying 23 passengers crashed down a deep canyon in the Rudraprayag area of Uttarakhand on Saturday. There have been up to seven reported injuries.

For treatment, the injured have been moved to the closest hospital.


The incident happened on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway, close to the Alakananda River.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed sorrow over the disaster and said the District Magistrate had been directed to look into it.

"I ask God to give the departed's spirits a place at His feet and to give the bereaved family the strength they need to endure this unbearable grief. On his official Twitter, he stated, "I pray to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured."

The passengers were traveling to Chopta Tungnat from Delhi/Ghaziabad, and relief and rescue efforts are being carried out by local government agencies and SDRF teams.
