Court requests CBI and ED's answer to Manish Sisodia's requests for bail.
Bail for Manish Sisodia: The judge scheduled a hearing for July 29.
Manish Sisodia, the head of the AAP, filed bail requests in the Delhi excise policy case, and the Supreme Court decided to consider them on Tuesday. His incarceration began in February 2023.
A bench of the highest court, presided over by Justice B R Gavai, has sent letters to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) requesting an answer to Sisodia's appeals.
The matter was scheduled for hearing before the court on July 29.
On February 26, 2023, Manish Sisodia was taken into custody by the CBI for his claimed involvement in the liquor policy scandal. The Enforcement Directorate detained him in March 2023 in connection with the CBI FIR's money laundering probe.
Shortly after his detention, Manish Sisodia, the deputy to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, resigned from his positions.
Months after the CBI was asked to investigate the canceled Delhi liquor policy, Manish Sisodia was taken into custody.
The government agencies have charged the AAP and its leaders with taking bribes from a group of liquor merchants totaling ₹100 crore in exchange for their support in getting liquor licenses in the nation's capital. Additionally, they charge AAP officials with using hawala routes to transfer ₹45 crore to their Goa election campaign in 2022.
Sanjay Singh, an AAP colleague of Manish Sisodia, was also taken into custody in this matter. He was granted bail earlier this year, though.
On March 21, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal was taken into custody. According to the agencies, he is one of the scam's main perpetrators. In the Enforcement Directorate's money laundering investigation pertaining to the Delhi excise policy, he was granted interim release lately. Still, he remains incarcerated due to the CBI's previous arrest of him.
The trial is proceeding slowly, according to Manish Sisodia's attorneys, senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi and advocate Vivek Jain.
