Instagram's Threads Receives Update with TweetDeck-Style View and Multi-Column Feeds on Desktop Website
Threads, Instagram's microblogging platform positioned as a competitor to X (formerly Twitter), introduced a new TweetDeck-style view along with additional features for desktop users on Thursday, May 30. This feature, enabling users to pin columns on their home screen, was initially spotted on May 16 when Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed that the platform had commenced testing it. Subsequently, it has been globally rolled out to users, as announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri.
In a Threads post, Mosseri unveiled the new Threads view, indicating that users can now "customize and personalize" their viewing experience. He further stated, "We have a lot of great ideas to make this the best website to share ideas, so stay tuned for more and let us know if you have any suggestions."
Users can access this feature through a pin icon located at the bottom of the left side panel, positioned above the More option. Alternatively, they can opt for the traditional single-feed view. Gadgets 360 verified this feature, observing a new multi-column desktop layout replacing the traditional single-feed view.
Threads is also introducing real-time updates for the feed, eliminating the need for users to manually refresh the page to view new content. This feature can be activated by toggling auto-update in the top-right corner of a feed, accessible through the three-dot option.
Cross-Posting on Threads The microblogging platform is reportedly experimenting with a feature that allows users to cross-post images from Instagram. It is speculated that this feature will not be enabled by default, and users may need to opt-in to use it.
The report notes that cross-posting an image from Instagram may automatically utilize the caption as the text for the Threads post. However, this feature has not yet been enabled for Gadgets 360 staff members.
