How Gautam Gambhir's performance at KKR aided in his appointment as India's coach

Gautam Gambhir was the favorite to succeed Rahul Dravid after assembling a championship-winning team in his debut season as KKR coach.
In the next three years, Team India will go through a transition period led by 42-year-old Gautam Gambhir, the youngest Indian coach in history.

The former India opener was named as the new head coach by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, more than a month after he led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL championship. Starting on July 27, Gambhir's three-and-a-half-year term will commence with a limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka.
