New Delhi: The Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir now has additional authority from the Center to decide on matters pertaining to law enforcement, officers of all-India services like the IAS and IPS, and to approve prosecution in certain cases.

The Lieutenant Governor (L-G) will also make decisions on topics pertaining to the anti-corruption bureau, including the appointment of advocate generals and other law officers.

By revising the regulations issued under the Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which was passed to split the former State of Jammu and Kashmir into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh while repealing Article 370, the Union Home Ministry granted the L-G these powers.

"Any proposal that necessitates prior approval from the Finance Department concerning "Police," "Public Order," "All India Service," and "Anti Corruption Bureau" in order for the Lieutenant Governor to exercise his or her discretion under the Act cannot be approved or denied unless it is presented to the Lieutenant Governor via the Chief Secretary," the Union Home Ministry reported.
