When is the best time to eat sweets? Many sweet lovers often ask this question. Even though health professionals warn about sugar's negative effects, avoiding it is hard since it's in so many foods, desserts, and drinks. Overeating sugar can cause weight gain and other health problems. Therefore, it's important to know the right time to consume sugar. Nutritionist Sonia Bakshi, founder of DtF, explained the best time to eat sugar.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Sonia Bakshi said the body processes sugar like alcohol, turning dietary carbs into fat. Over time, this can cause fatty liver disease, a risk factor for heart disease and diabetes. She said, “Excessive sugar intake can lead to imbalanced blood sugar levels, causing mood swings, fatigue, and cognitive decline. High sugar intake is also linked to inflammation, which is a risk factor for heart disease, mood disorders, and cancer. Additionally, it can cause obesity and hormonal imbalances affecting fertility.”

Sonia mentioned that people often eat nutritious breakfasts like cereals, fruits, pastries, and breads. However, she advised against eating these foods in the morning because they lack nutrients that balance blood sugar levels. Eating sugary foods in the morning can spike blood sugar levels since the body is more sensitive to carbs after fasting overnight. Therefore, sugar is the worst choice for breakfast.

Sonia Bakshi also said that although there is no ideal time to eat a lot of sugar, the afternoon is the best time. The body's metabolism is more active in the afternoon, making it better at processing sugars. Additionally, if someone exercises in the evening, consuming sugar at lunch can help with muscle recovery. However, it is important to eat it in moderation.
