UGC: Universities can now accept overseas admission applications twice a year.

Similar to international universities, Indian universities and higher education establishments would be permitted to offer biannual admissions twice a year. The two admission cycles for the 2024–25 academic year are scheduled for July–August and January–February. Students who were not admitted during the July–August session because of personal reasons, health concerns, or delays in board results would benefit from this.

UGC: Universities can now accept overseas admission applications twice a year.

The plan to allow Indian universities and higher education institutions to offer admissions twice a year on the model of international universities has been approved by the University Grants Commission, according to UGC chief Jagadesh Kumar. The two admission cycles for the 2024–25 academic year are scheduled for July–August and January–February.

"If Indian universities can offer admission twice a year, it will benefit many students such as those who missed admission to a university in the July-August session due to a delay in the announcement of board results, health issues, or personal reasons," Kumar said to PTI.

"Since students do not have to wait a full year for admission if they are not admitted in the current cycle, biannual university admissions will help students maintain motivation." By having biannual admissions, businesses will be able to recruit graduates from universities twice a year, increasing their employment prospects," he continued.

Biannual admissions, according to the UGC director, will also make it possible for HEIs to more effectively organize the distribution of their resources, including teachers, labs, classrooms, and support services, improving the university's overall operational flow.
