Commemorating Pakistan's 26th Atomic Tests Anniversary
State leader Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan's 1998 atomic tests reflect the nation's significant journey towards establishing a credible deterrence. The tests, conducted in a well-protected site in Balochistan, were in response to India's tests on the same day. Pakistan's state media highlighted these tests as essential for regional security, ensuring the country's defense capabilities. Pakistan became the seventh nuclear power globally and the first among Muslim nations in 1998.
The day is observed annually as Youm-e-Takbeer, emphasizing its importance. Sharif declared it a national holiday, acknowledging the collective effort of the nation. He praised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's leadership in making Pakistan a nuclear-armed state.
While crediting Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for his vision and commitment to the nuclear program, Sharif did not mention Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan. Sharif urged the nation to strive for economic security, mirroring the determination shown in bolstering defense in 1998.
Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani reiterated Pakistan's commitment to global peace, citing the successful demonstration of nuclear capabilities and dedication to regional stability showcased on Youm-e-Takbeer.
