Telangana textbook error: The head of SCERT will be disciplined

Hyderabad: In response to an error in the workbook and foreword of the Telugu textbooks thanking former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and his Cabinet colleagues for their advice and guidance, the School Education Department is considering disciplining M Radha Reddy, the director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), for the matter.

Radha Reddy was the subject of proceedings on Thursday by School Education Commissioner A Sridevasena, who directed her to provide an explanation for why no disciplinary action should be taken against her for neglecting her duties.

The action was taken in response to media stories that brought attention to the SCERT's error. The previous Chief Minister and former Minister for Education's names were printed with the title "Mundu Maata" in some of the textbooks and workbooks that the SCERT Director distributes, according to the School Education Commissioner during the hearings.

"Consequently, within three days of the date of receipt of these proceedings, without fail, M Radha Reddy, Director, SCERT, is hereby directed to submit her explanation as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against her for dereliction and negligence towards her duties," the proceedings stated.

After the problem, the department gave all DEOs instructions to retrieve the Telugu textbooks for classes I through X and store them in a secure location until they received new instructions.
