Tamil Nadu hooch tragedy: 34 dead, CM announces Rs 10 lakh compensation per victim.
Stalin claims that the government has designated a lone member committee led by former High Court Judge B Gokuldas to investigate the matter.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced on Thursday that the number of people killed in the hooch tragedy in the state's Kallakurichi area has increased to 34. He also stated that their families would receive Rs 10 lakh in compensation.
CM Stalin added in a statement released here that a one-man committee led by retired High Court Justice B Gokuldas has been established by the government to investigate the matter and suggest actions to stop similar incidents in the future.
CM Stalin expressed his sorrow upon learning that 34 people in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district had died as a result of drinking alcohol without a permit. According to him, orders have been given to pay Rs. 50,000 to hospital patients receiving treatment and Rs. 10 lakh to the families of the 34 deceased.
In this regard, he said, four people have been arrested and others who supplied the methanol needed to make the illicit booze would also face consequences.
According to the Chief Minister, police have been requested to look into the methanol's source. He claims that the District Collector has been moved and that the implicated police officers have been disciplined.
