Siddaramaiah Criticizes PM Modi Over 'God Sent' Comment, Questions If He Is a Divine Incarnation
He also said that it is impossible to turn this very diverse country into a 'Hindu Nation.'
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his reported 'God sent' comment and questioned if he was a divine incarnation. He also said that turning this diverse country into a 'Hindu Nation' is impossible.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke at a state Congress event on Monday to commemorate the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's death anniversary. "Narendra Modi now says he was sent by God. Look at the irony. He says God has sent him to create a Developed India by 2047. Is he the incarnation of God?" Siddaramaiah asked.
He said, "Not even once has he launched any programs aimed at the poor, Dalits, backward classes, minorities, and unemployed. There should be equality and equal opportunity for all. Has he made efforts to achieve this?" He added, "Fully aware of their (BJP/NDA) defeat, Narendra Modi is saying whatever comes to his mind. He does this intentionally to get votes by dividing Hindus and Muslims. He aims for vote polarization. While speaking to the media, he says he stands for all people, but during election rallies, he uses hate speech against Muslims."
The CM's remarks follow PM Modi's interview with a national news channel where he reportedly said he was sent by God, not born biologically. Siddaramaiah claimed that the BJP doesn't believe in pluralism, emphasizing that India represents pluralism with many religions, castes, and languages. "In a country this diverse, autocracy and statements like 'we will make this a Hindu Rashtra' are just dreams. It is not possible here, and this must be clearly understood," he added.
Crediting Nehru for establishing democracy, setting up many public sector industries and educational institutions, and building big dams, Siddaramaiah questioned whether PM Modi, who claims Congress did nothing for India, has constructed at least one dam or established a public sector industry in 10 years.
