Regarding Manish Sisodia's bail, Sunita Kejriwal said, "Justice Can Be Delayed, Not Denied"

New Delhi:  Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Manish Sisodia, has been detained for 17 months in relation to the Delhi liquor policy case. Today, the Supreme Court granted Sisodia bail. The wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita Kejriwal, expressed her relief at the news by saying, "Justice can be delayed, not denied."

Arvind Kejriwal is one of several prominent people who have been arrested in connection with the legal dispute around the Delhi excise policy case. A Delhi court on Thursday extended Mr. Kejriwal's judicial detention until August 20 in connection with the current Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) corruption investigation. Following Mr. Kejriwal's video conference appearance before the court, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who presided over the case, decided to prolong his custody.

On August 12, the court is expected to review an additional charge sheet that the CBI has submitted against Mr. Kejriwal. The AAP chief, who has been identified as one of the "main conspirators" in the case, is set to face further charges in the supplemental charge sheet. Judge Baweja justified the prolongation of Mr. Kejriwal's custody by citing the CBI's concerns that he could try to influence witnesses if released.

While in judicial custody at Tihar Jail, where he was being held in connection with a money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Mr. Kejriwal, 55, was first arrested by the CBI on June 26. On March 21, the ED had already arrested him.

Mr. Kejriwal is still detained in Tihar Jail because he has not yet provided the necessary bail bond, even though the Supreme Court granted him temporary bail in the ED case on July 12.
