'Probe Initiated into Delhi Airport Canopy Collapse Incident': Civil Aviation Minister

New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced on Friday that an investigation has been launched into the canopy collapse incident at Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport.

"We have initiated the investigation and will involve experts from the department to ensure a thorough inquiry. Action will be taken based on the findings of the report," the Minister informed ANI.

Following the incident, the Minister also emphasized the necessity of inspecting all airport buildings nationwide to prevent future occurrences. "We will conduct inspections across all airport buildings to ensure such incidents do not recur. A review meeting has been convened today. Our priority is also ensuring proper care and treatment for the injured in hospitals," he added.

Earlier in the day, Minister Ram Mohan Naidu visited Safdarjung and AIIMS hospitals in New Delhi to meet with the injured. "I have met with those admitted at AIIMS. It is our government's commitment to diligently restore normalcy in times of crisis. The incident at Terminal 1 is regrettable, and a comprehensive investigation will be conducted," the Minister assured.

Doctors at the AIIMS Trauma Centre reported that a 28-year-old man injured in the incident was in stable condition. Dr. Shivanand Gamanagatti, Acting Chief of AIIMS trauma centre, confirmed, "The patient is stable with minor injuries and is currently under observation."

Minister Naidu also conducted an inspection at Delhi Airport and announced compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 3 lakh each to the injured. "We are treating this incident with utmost seriousness," Naidu underscored.

Meanwhile, all flight operations from Terminal 1 have been temporarily suspended due to the canopy collapse caused by heavy morning rain. The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated, "Flights to and from Terminal 1 have been halted. Alternate arrangements are being made to ensure smooth operations of flights."
