New Delhi: Inspired by the Indian concept of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," India hosted the third Voice of Global South Summit today.
This week's announcement from the Ministry of External Affairs stated that the summit is an extension of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas'.
It aims to bring together nations from the Global South to discuss a wide variety of issues and exchange viewpoints and priorities on a single platform.
With "An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future" as its overall theme, the third Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS) will serve as a forum to continue on conversations from previous Summits on a variety of difficult issues that continue to affect the world, such as conflicts, food and energy security crises, climate change - all of which disproportionately affect developing countries in a severe manner, the MEA stated.
In its weekly briefing yesterday, the Ministry of External Affairs announced that all of the Global South's nations have received summit invitations.
The nations of the Global South would carry on discussing issues, concerns, and solutions for the region during the summit, especially with regard to development.
The third VOGSS is organized into ministerial and leaders' sessions and will take place virtually.
Prime Minister Modi will preside over the first meeting of the Head of State or Government. "An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future" is the Overarching topic of the Summit and the same theme of the Leaders' Session.
Furthermore, ten Ministerial Sessions will take place: the Foreign Ministers' Session on "Charting a Unique Paradigm for Global South," the Health Ministers' Session on "One World-One Health," the Youth Ministers' Session on "Youth Engagement for a Better Future," the Commerce/Trade Ministers' Session on "Trade for Development- Perspectives from Global South," the Information & Technology Ministers' Session on "DPIs for Development- A Global South Approach," the Finance Ministers' Session on "People-Centric Approach to Global Finance," the Second Foreign Ministers' Session on "Global South and Global Governance," the Energy Ministers' Session on "Sustainable Energy Solutions for a Sustainable Future," the Education Ministers' Session on "Prioritizing Human Resource Development: A Global South Perspective," and the Environment Ministers Session.
The first Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS) took place virtually in India on January 12–13, 2023, while the second Voice of Global South Summit took place on November 17, 2023.
More than a hundred countries from the Global South took part in the Summit's two prior editions. The agenda and talks of the G-20 Summit held last year under India's Presidency, including the G-20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration, effectively reflected the contributions and feedback obtained from the leaders of the developing countries in these two summits.
