"BRS Criticizes Govt for Delaying Paddy Procurement, Leaving Ryots Waiting"

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has criticized the government for delaying paddy procurement and making farmers wait for weeks.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has accused the State government of abandoning farmers who are bringing their paddy produce to the purchase centers, leaving them at the mercy of nature. They claim that weighing of paddy has not been carried out even after 25 days at several locations, despite untimely rain damaging the produce across the State.

Speaking at a press conference held here on Wednesday, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, along with other party leaders, highlighted that the agriculture sector had plunged into crisis once again, soon after the Congress party came into power. He emphasized that farmers bringing their produce to purchase centers were facing various difficulties.

The Congress leaders, who previously emphasized moral principles while in opposition, are now notably silent despite ongoing issues with paddy procurement. There have been reports of procurement personnel deducting approximately 3.5 kg from every quintal of paddy under the pretext of chaff and other waste. Moreover, there is a severe shortage of gunny sacks, and neither government officials nor elected representatives of the ruling party are available to address the concerns of the farming community.

Highlighting instances of significant delays in weighing paddy at purchase centers, the BRS leader pointed out delays of up to 25 days at various centers in Kamareddy, Nirmal, Sircilla, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, and others. He urged the government to prioritize paddy procurement and address other farming-related issues now that the elections are over. Additionally, he demanded that the government expedite paddy procurement, purchase rain-soaked paddy, provide a bonus of ₹500 per quintal, and instruct field-level authorities not to deduct the weight of paddy in the name of chaff and other waste.

Mr. Rama Rao reassured the farming community that the BRS would stand by them until the government responded positively and accelerated paddy procurement. He urged the farmers not to lose hope amidst these challenges.
