New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi stated on X today that Bangladesh has promised to defend and guarantee the security and safety of Hindus and all other minorities residing in the nation. PM Modi claimed that Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim administration of Bangladesh, called him and provided him with the guarantee.
Yesterday on Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi expressed his hope that the situation in Bangladesh, which has been rocked by violence, would soon return to normal. This was a response to the concerns of 140 crore Indians over the safety of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.
"I got a call from Professor Muhammad Yunus. exchanged opinions about the state of affairs. reiterated India's backing for Bangladesh that is democratic, peaceful, stable, and forward-thinking. He promised to keep Hindus and all other minorities safe and secure in Bangladesh," PM Modi said in the post.
During his Tuesday visit to the Dhakeshwari temple in the country's capital, Dhaka, Mr. Yunus made an effort to engage with Hindus in Bangladesh. Following the ousting of previous prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he vowed to punish those who had targeted minorities during the recent turmoil.
Numerous reports with images from all throughout Bangladesh claimed that Hindus and other minorities had been attacked. According to other tales, rioters attacked both men and women and damaged temples. The ISKCON temple was among the several establishments vandalized in addition to the destruction of the Indian Cultural Center.
Even Congress MP and head of the opposition Shashi Tharoor found a nonpartisan audience for his remarks over the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Mr. Tharoor has stated that it was hard for Indians to remain apathetic when every emblem of the country's friendship with Bangladesh was attacked there.
The fact that what was heralded as a popular, democratic revolution turned into disorder and violence directed on minorities, particularly the Hindu minority, is truly tragic. India needs to support the people of Bangladesh. However, it's hard for us to remain neutral when every sign of India's relationship with Bangladesh is under attack," Mr. Tharoor said on Wednesday to the news agency ANI.
