I don't intend to run in another Lok Sabha election: Shashi Tharoor

Senior Congressman Shashi Tharoor of New Delhi stated on Friday that he does not see himself running for office in the Lower House again if the next Lok Sabha elections are held five years from now. He feels that one must know when to give way to new people. With 16,077 votes, Tharoor defeated Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat, marking his fourth consecutive win from the constituency.

When asked if this election was his last chance to enter politics, Tharoor responded to PTI, saying, "Yes, the Lok Sabha, but not electoral politics." I believe I have contributed enough, and I genuinely believe that everyone needs to know when to give up so that others who are younger can try their hand at something."

"There's no denying that the Lok Sabha is a crucial institution. I have given my constituents my all, and I will continue to do so, but there are other ways to serve in public office without necessarily going through this process. "I don't really see myself at that stage wanting to have another go at the Lok Sabha if the election is five years away," the former Union minister stated.

Although he still has five years left to serve, Tharoor said he is committed to giving the people he represents his all throughout that time.

When asked about the close race and whether the Left caused him any difficulty, Tharoor responded that Pannyan Raveendran, the CPI candidate, received 2.5 lakh votes.
