Lithium deposits found in Karnataka's Mandya and Yadgiri.
The Russian and Indian governments have shown a desire to increase their collaboration in the area of nuclear energy applications.
Karnataka's Mandya and Yadgiri districts have been confirmed to have lithium deposits, according to Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences in the Rajya Sabha.
In a letter response, the minister said that the Department of Atomic Energy's Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) has discovered lithium resources in the Karnataka districts of Mandya and Yadgiri.
He told the gathering that AMD had identified 1,600 tonnes (G3 stage) of lithium resources in the Mandya district's Marlagalla area, and that in order to learn more about the deposits, some basic surveys and limited subsurface work had been done in the Yadgiri district.
Additionally, he mentioned that AMD is searching for lithium in some areas of Chhattisgarh's Korba District's prospective geological domains. However, the country's potential geological domains for lithium deposits are the large mica belts found in Rajasthan, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh, as well as the pegmatite belts found in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka.
According to Singh, surface uranium has been detected in Masanbal, Hamirpur district, following a preliminary study conducted lately by AMD in Himachal Pradesh. He stated unequivocally that no study has been carried out by the Atomic Energy Commission to develop an atomic energy facility in Himachal Pradesh.
Singh's statement in the upper chamber is that the Department of Atomic Energy is keeping an eye on global advancements and current trends in the field of small modular reactors. While many small modular reactor designs and technologies published by international vendors and governments are being examined to obtain technical specifics, no proposal to work with foreign vendors or countries is being considered at this time.
Additionally, he disclosed that no commercial company has expressed interest in developing a compact modular reactor as of yet. Nonetheless, a few private companies have expressed interest in setting up tiny reactors at their facilities.
The minister also mentioned that the Russian and Indian governments had shown a desire to further collaboration in the area of small modular reactors and nuclear energy utilization for peaceful purposes.
