Kota's notion of success is altered by NEET row; students concentrate on alternatives
Due to fierce competition for top spots, the NEET scores scandal has many candidates concerned about being admitted to a medical institution.
Earlier this week, Saurabh went back to his hometown in Bihar. To get ready for his final National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) try the following year, he will not be going back to Kota.
"Wapas jaake keya karu? This year, it was my third effort. There is no way my grades will meet such a high cut-off. For my final try, I shall just practice from home. However, I'm going to apply to local universities for an undergrad in zoology as well. The 18-year-old, who moved to Kota three years ago, said, "I don't want to waste another year. Despite scoring significantly below the cut-off marks in the last two attempts, I have never failed to maintain my motivation."
The intense competition for high ranks in an affordable government medical college caused by the mounting controversy over this year's NEET scores worried many candidates, but the entire row also caused a great deal of stress for current students like Saurabh and freshers who have been preparing for an attempt next year.
67 individuals took home the top spot in an amazing display of fierce rivalry, which made many of those students in Kota decide to either avoid Kota—India's test-prep mecca—or think about pursuing a different professional path right once.
"I'm afraid. I am unsure of my chances in NEET, even though I do not currently have any plans to leave Kota. What if I experience it again the following year? I really want to pass NEET. However, I want to make sure that I have an opportunity in nursing courses in case I am unable to follow an MBBS program owing to unforeseen reasons. "I'll hold onto this option," declared 16-year-old Tanishka Manjhi, who moved from Madhya Pradesh to Kota just a month ago.
