Kolkata: According to US Consul Melinda Pavek, many Indian students from the east would be traveling to the US in 2024 to pursue higher education. In the US, India accounts for one in four international students.

On Thursday, during the 8th Annual Student Visa Day here, Pavek announced that thousands of students from this region—which includes the northeast—would be a part of the largest delegation of Indian students to the US this year.

According to a statement released by the US Embassy, "We issued more visas last year than in 2018, 2019 and 2020 combined, and the top four student visa processing posts in the world were all right here in India." According to Pavek, the US prioritizes its pupils.

But she added, "I would detest the idea of a kid taking out a family loan to attend an Ivy League university. The degree should be the focus instead.

She stated that her nation never wants to turn away any "genuine students," in response to allegations that numerous Indian students were recently deported from the US upon arrival due to visa concerns.

According to Pavek, the US consulate is training women specialized communication skills in addition to teaching English language proficiency to Indians.

We are teaching them specific business plan writing techniques. It concerns tailored communication that is beneficial to them," she continued. According to Pavek, her research indicates that Indian students in the US are not just interested in engineering, chemistry, and physics, but also in computer science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Over 3,900 applications for student visas from across the nation were interviewed by the US Consular Team on Thursday throughout the course of the day. Over a hundred children and their families took part in the events held at the US embassy here.
