Political Mercury Rising: IMD Issues Heatwave Warning
Join us as we discuss the escalating political tension amidst the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) heatwave warning. In this video, we analyze the implications of the rising political temperature, exploring its impact on the current socio-political landscape.
Political tensions are escalating alongside the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) warning of a heatwave.
The political temperature is rising as the national election focuses entirely on north, west, and east India. Swati Maliwal’s complaint against Arvind Kejriwal’s PA has tarnished AAP’s image.
A severe heatwave warning in north India is not good news for any political party as it might impact the polling rates in some seats. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast on Thursday predicts a severe heatwave enveloping Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana between May 18 and 20, with similar conditions expected in other parts of northern India and Bihar over the next five days as the summer heat intensifies across most parts of the country.
The political heat is also on the rise as the national election shifts focus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to target the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, supported by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the national campaign. The Congress, however, remains focused on its manifesto.
Swati Maliwal’s alleged assault by Arvind Kejriwal’s PA Bibhav Kumar has dented AAP’s image and diverted attention from its vigorous campaign.
Maliwal accused Bibhav Kumar of slapping her multiple times inside the Delhi chief minister’s house earlier this week. An FIR was registered against Bibhav Kumar under sections 354, 506, 509, and 323 of the Indian Penal Code, based on Maliwal’s statement. Maliwal subsequently underwent a medical checkup at AIIMS.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed support for Maliwal, stating that the Congress stands with any woman facing injustice, regardless of her political affiliation.
Meanwhile, NCP chief Sharad Pawar dismissed Prime Minister Modi’s claim that the Congress intended to allocate 15% of the budget for Muslims as "foolish", emphasizing that budget allocations based on caste or religion can never happen.
In Karnataka, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar predicted that the NDA would not secure more than 200 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, asserting that the opposition INDIA bloc would win 300-plus seats. He also mentioned that the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance in Uttar Pradesh would continue beyond the parliamentary elections.
