Cyber threats are a significant menace in India, and it appears that malware issues are affecting more people than we had previously imagined.

A report released on Friday by global security company Kaspersky revealed that nearly one in four Indians faced hacking attacks in the first quarter of this year (January-March period), highlighting the persistent threat of malware. According to the quarterly data, 22.9 percent of web users in the country were targeted by web-borne threats, while 20.1 percent of users were vulnerable to local threats during the same period.

The company stated, "Malware remains a significant threat to users in India. Targeted malware attacks continue to be a major source of concern for organizations and users alike."

Cyber criminals exploited vulnerabilities in browsers and their plugins, with "file-less malware" emerging as the most dangerous web threat in the quarter. This type of malware leaves no trace for static analysis, making it particularly challenging to detect. Additionally, social engineering tactics like phishing, baiting, and pretexting remained prevalent modes of cyber attack on Indian users.

According to Kaspersky's findings, its web security solutions blocked 12,454,797 different Internet-borne cyberthreats during the January-March period. Additionally, it detected and blocked 16,751,049 local incidents on computers during the same period.
