How A US Tech Company Employee Arranged And Carried Out His Ex-Boss's Murder
Former IT mogul Fahim Saleh's aide Tyrese Haspil assassinated his former boss to hide taking $400,000 from the 33-year-old businessman.
Tech billionaire Fahim Saleh's former helper Tyrese Haspil was found guilty in 2020 of killing his boss in his Manhattan apartment. Tyrese Haspil killed his former boss, according to the prosecution, in order to hide his theft of $400,000 from the 33-year-old businessman.
Mr. Saleh was the CEO of the Nigerian scooter firm Gokada and a successful digital entrepreneur.
The 25-year-old was convicted on several counts, including first-degree murder, grand theft, burglary, tampering with tangible evidence, and hiding a dead body. September 10 is when he will be sentenced; he might spend up to 25 years or even life behind bars.
"Tyrese Haspil tragically cut Mr. Saleh's life short – a man who came from a close-knit immigrant family and followed his passions to become a successful entrepreneur," Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. I'm hoping that the responsibility that today's decision brings about will help Mr. Saleh's family find some solace in their ongoing grieving.
According to the NY Post, Mr. Saleh was found dead in his $2.4 million high-rise condo on East Houston Street's seventh floor.
Planning a murder
Tyrese Haspil started his plot in 2018 to steal from his former boss, Fahim Saleh, but it wasn't until July 2020 that his scam took a tragic turn. According to The NYT, he embezzled funds from Mr. Saleh's businesses to buy extravagant presents for his fiancée.
To channel the stolen funds, Haspil set up a false bank account and corporate entity. Haspil consented to a payback plan when Mr. Saleh uncovered the theft in January 2020, but he kept stealing money via a phony PayPal account.
Haspil started making plans to assassinate Mr. Saleh out of fear that he would find out about the more profitable robbery.
