Google Rolls Out Gemini YouTube Music Extension Globally: Will Play Songs on Command!
Learn about the latest update from Google as it rolls out the Gemini YouTube Music Extension globally, allowing users to play songs on command. In this video, we explore the features and functionality of this extension and how it enhances the YouTube Music experience for users worldwide.
Global Release of Google Gemini YouTube Music Extension Enables Song Playback via Voice Command
The Google Gemini extension for YouTube Music has been rolled out worldwide, allowing users to play songs simply by issuing voice commands.
Google is introducing a new feature for its AI chatbot, Gemini. Users will now have the option to play songs on YouTube Music directly through the AI assistant. This feature is made possible by a new YouTube Music extension for Gemini, which integrates the app into the platform. Although briefly showcased during the I/O event last week, the feature is now beginning to roll out. To utilize this feature on their smartphones, users will need to have both the Gemini app and the YouTube Music app installed.
Activation of the Gemini's YouTube Music extension is required before users can use it. There are two methods to activate the extension. On the web client of Gemini, users can navigate to Settings > Extensions and toggle on the YouTube Music extension. Once activated, the feature will be available on smartphones provided the same account is used on both platforms.
Another method to activate the extension is directly on the smartphone. Within the Gemini app, users can request the chatbot to play music, triggering an automatic pop-up prompting the activation of the extension. Enabling it will allow Gemini to play songs from the YouTube Music app.
Features of Gemini's YouTube Music Extension
With this extension, Gemini can interpret verbal or typed commands to play songs based on specific genres, artists, albums, and more. It can also handle more intricate requests, such as "play music that I like." To fulfill such requests, the AI will analyze the user's YouTube Music recommendations and playback history to suggest similar songs. Google has provided a comprehensive list of tasks Gemini can undertake following this integration.
When Gemini AI assistant was initially launched, it faced criticism for its minimal features, lacking capabilities even compared to the existing Google Assistant. Initially, it couldn't set alarms, reminders, or execute tasks through third-party apps. Presently, the AI chatbot has extensions for Google Flights, Google Maps, Google Hotels, Google Workspace, YouTube, and YouTube Music. However, it still lacks integration for popular platforms like WhatsApp or Spotify, despite user requests.
