Will India Take Over From Bangladesh as the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup Host? Jay Shah's Reaction
According to Jay Shah, India declined Bangladesh Cricket Board's request to host the Women's T20 World Cup in October of 2024.
According to Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), India declined Bangladesh Cricket Board's bid to host the Women's T20 World Cup in October of 2024. There are doubts about the nation's ability to host the World Cup this year due to the political turmoil. Prior to determining whether to move the tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) stated that they will be keeping an eye on the circumstances in Bangladesh. According to Jay Shah, the BCCI does not want to send out "any signal" that the nation intends to hold World Cups back-to-back. India will host the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup.
"We'll be hosting the 50-overs women's World Cup next year. Jay Shah told Times of India, "We don't want to send out any signals that we want to host World Cups back-to-back."
Additionally, Jay Shah stated that the BCCI opposes holding pink-ball Test matches. The final pink-ball Test match between India and Sri Lanka took held in Bengaluru in 2022. In the last two series, India did not play a home pink-ball series against Australia or England.
"You purchase a ticket for a five-day game, but it ends in two or three days. A refund is not available. I'm a little sentimental about this, Jay Shah said.
In the interim. Morne Morkel, a former star pacer for South Africa, has been appointed as the Indian cricket team's new bowling coach.
It is believed that the 39-year-old, who takes over for Paras Mhambrey, would become the bowling coach for the Bangladesh series beginning on September 19 with the first Test in Chennai. His term of office is set to expire at the conclusion of the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
"Yes, Morne Morkel has been appointed bowling coach of the senior India men's team," Shah stated to PTI.
Ryan Ten Doeschate, the fielding coach, and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar make up the rest of Gambhir's support group.
Having worked with him at the Lucknow Super Giants throughout the Indians' two IPL seasons as the team's mentor, Morkel was also Gambhir's first option.
