Delhi Education Minister Halts Transfer Orders of 5,000 Teachers, Suggests Possible Corruption

On Thursday, Delhi Education Minister Atishi stated that she has instructed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to promptly rescind transfer orders for 5,000 teachers that were issued without her approval.

A circular titled 'Online Requests for Transfer of Teaching Staff of the Directorate of Education' mandated that all teachers who have been stationed at one school for more than 10 years must apply for a transfer.

According to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on June 11, teachers failing to apply for transfer will be reassigned to another school. However, on July 1, the minister ordered that no teacher should be transferred solely due to having spent more than 10 years in a single school. At a press conference, Atishi stated she has discovered corruption related to this issue.

"I have directed the chief secretary to withdraw a transfer order issued on July 2, which goes against my instructions, affecting nearly 5,000 teachers. Additionally, I have requested an inquiry into any potential corruption or malpractice," she stated.
