Durg: According to police, a 28-year-old man attempted to extort Rs 10 lakh from a couple after he accidentally recorded their intimate video at their home in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh. The man wanted to work for the government but had never passed any civil services exams, despite numerous tries.

Vinay Kumar Sahu, the accused, had gone to the couple's home early last month with the purpose of breaking and entering, but instead of taking anything, he used his phone to record the couple's private moments and demanded money from them for not releasing the footage, according to the couple.

Residents of Ahiwara village, which is located in the Nandini police station area, said that the culprit was detained on June 25 in response to their complaint, according to Sub Divisional Officer of Police (Dhamdha), Sanjay Pundhir.

The male victim reported to the police on June 17 that he had received a video clip on their WhatsApp account from an unidentified number that appeared to show him and his spouse having a private moment. The man further reported to the police that he had received a call from an unknown individual who demanded Rs 10 lakh from him for not posting the video on social media.

To investigate, a combined Nandini police and Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) squad was formed. Police used CCTV and technical data to focus in on the accused.
